Denver Chalk Art Festival

Every year I participate in the Denver Chalk Art Festival, the first weekend in June. 200 juried artists are assigned a 8'x8' square to draw in, and it brings over 200,000 visitors each year. I find it's a great way to connect to the community and get some feedback on my work, since many people forget you can hear them as they walk by and comment.

Year 3 was a BLAST. I felt like I knew what I was doing, I already had artist friends at the festival, I had a wonderful sponsor, that kept bringing me cold water, and I even found out I was  considered for an award. People loved the concept, they would "inception" the piece, take pictures of themselves taking pictures of the picture. I didn't want the festival to end, and am going through withdrawl already.

I was a little hesitant, because I was put on a wait list, but was able to participate as an alternate this year. Taking what I learned in 2016, it was so much easier this year. I also got a less crowded spot, with more shade, so it felt like less pressure. Made new friends with artists, and feel more confindent about next year.

More work than I anticipated, but so much fun, and I learned a lot.  Started off with something easy for me, reproducing a master, Van Gogh's "Fritillaries in a copper vase". Hope to do it again next year.
